Welcome to Roger’s Take on Religion: An Inclusive Perspective
Has Christianity, as practiced in America, lost its savor?
By defending Trump or remaining silent, religious leaders continue to bless an immoral president. Mega-church pastor Robert Jeffress’ statement that God has given Trump permission to “take out” Kim Jong Un is an example. Jeffress has not said, however, whether God has given Trump the right to make racist statements.
“The church must be reminded that it is not the master or the servant of the state, but rather the conscience of the state,” Martin Luther King Jr. said. “It must be the guide and the critic of the state, and never its tool.”
Here’s My Take: For far too many, faith has become a tool of the Trump presidency.
Matthew writes in his gospel “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.”
Where there is unquestioning support of Trump, the saltiness of Christianity has been lost.
