Welcome to Roger’s Take on Religion: An Inclusive Perspective
In 17th century America, hundreds of witches were tortured, burned at the stake or hanged, based on the hysteria of the times. Is Donald Trump a 21st century witch?
He obviously thinks so. Following the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel for investigating Russia’s involvement in the recent presidential election, Trump tweeted that he’s the target of “the greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history.”
Those government workers hunted down by Senator Joseph McCarthy from 1947 to 1956 and accused of being communists might disagree. Again, witch hunting was a Russia-based fear.
Here’s My Take: Trump continues to portray himself as a victim, falsely caught up in the hysteria caused by Russia’s meddling in U.S. politics. He takes no responsibility for the witch hunts he has created by calling journalists the “enemy of the people” and immigrants “drug dealers and rapists.”
Trump is not a 21st century falsely accused witch. Like McCarthy, he’s just another reincarnated witch hunter.
