Welcome to Roger’s Take on Religion: An Inclusive Perspective
The best way to get media coverage these days is to say something really, really stupid. Plain stupid won’t work. Today’s competition is fierce.
Consider the North Carolina pastor who expressed outrage recently when American Girl released its first male doll, Logan Everett, an 18” drummer who accompanies singer-songwriter doll Tenny Grant.
“This is nothing more than a trick of the enemy to emasculate little boys and confuse their role to become men,” the Baptist pastor said after watching a segment about American Girl on “Good Morning America.” In a later interview he said, “Now you are going to have little boys playing with baby dolls and that’s not cool.”
Here’s My Take: Musicians are always getting a bad rap, especially drummers. One exception is the Little Drummer Boy and his message:
I played my drum for Him, Pa rum pum pum pum. I played my best for Him, Pa rum pum pum pum.
It’s the song and not the sex that counts in life. Thank God the message on Logan’s t-shirt reads “Play Loud.”
