Welcome to Roger’s Take on Religion: An Inclusive Perspective
After four decades of marriage, God is seeking a divorce from the Republican Party. According to anonymous sources, divorce papers have been filed in Tennessee by the archangel Gabriel on behalf of the Almighty. The presidential nomination of Donald Trump was listed as the final straw creating “irreconcilable differences.”
Those close to God say that the split had been coming for some time. One witness testified that the first flare-up took place when President George W. Bush misled the public regarding the Iraq invasion.
Here’s My Take: The above is pure fantasy. God’s love is always present, even in the midst of our unloving imperfections (whether Republican or Democrat). Here’s an illustration:
In the novel, Spartacus, a young man, the apple of his mother’s eye, falls in love with a woman who agrees to marry him only if he brings to her his mother’s heart. The young man returns home, kills his mother and cuts out her heart. Running back to his lover, he trips and falls. “Son, are you okay?” asks the still beating heart. This is God’s love.
The idea of “God’s Divorce” comes from an article by Guthrie Graves-Fitzsimmons (Religious News Service, March 3, 2016)
