Welcome to Roger’s Take on Religion: An Inclusive Perspective
Who was it that said “If the Jews had been armed, the Holocaust wouldn’t have happened?” It doesn’t matter. Jews, guns and the Holocaust are always being lumped together to make Jews responsible for their own decimation.
The latest voice singing this tune is rocker Ted Nugent (“Cat Scratch Fever”), an outspoken member of the NRA Board of Directors.
Nugent recently posted on Facebook photographs of 12 Jewish leaders (including Senator Dianne Feinstein, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz), calling them “punks” who would “deny us the basic human right to self-defense.” Later he added a photo of Nazis rounding up Jews during the Holocaust and described gun-control advocates as “soulless sheep to slaughter.”
Such remarks and similar expressions by presidential candidates have helped fuel the recent 14% increase in the number of American hate groups according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Here’s My Take: When one is blessed like Nugent with a big stage in life and then uses that stage to tear down others, it’s rock and roll gone bad. Only the devil within inspires hatred.
Loving the good more than hating the evil is the song. Thank goodness, God and rock and roll never forget.
