A Brief Message to God

Welcome to Roger’s Take on Religion: An Inclusive Perspective

As I’ve watched, God, I’ve noticed you doing several things in recent years with great emotion:

Huffing and puffing while working with the faithful to bring about just and loving relationships.Clapping and smiling whenever success, however small, is achieved. Crying in the face of hatreds and injustices of any kind.

Unfortunately, I see you mostly crying these days. I’ve heard that you’ve cancelled all newspaper subscriptions and disconnected the television. The headlines are too dismal for even you to bear.

I can understand this. Why I read just yesterday that a gun manufacturer had developed an assault weapon engraved with bible verses and a cross specifically for use against Muslims.  That’s gotta hurt, God, when people use your good name to promote their human cruelties.

Here’s My Take: Hang in there, God. Don’t give up. If I might be so bold, I think you focus too much on the negative. Remember your Pope Francis. Now there’s a bright spot in a dim world.  The Pope’s recent proclamation allowing priests to forgive women who have had abortions, though tentative, is a step in the right direction. Forgiveness is always a smile-builder.

A Second Take: This brings me to another idea. Some people believe that everything you ever said about faith was written down thousands of years ago by a bunch of sexist, homophobic, Jewish men. I know you will agree with me that this is a bunch of baloney.

A living God of love like yourself is continually being revealed in fresh and unexpected ways.  If you could get this awareness across to those like the county clerk in KY who for biblical reasons refuses to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, perhaps there would be fewer tears and more clapping and smiling in the world. Just a suggestion.

Thanks Roger. I have wanting to contact you. Met the guy who bought your house yesterday. A nice man. Really I no longer struggle with addictions, control issues, even spiritual issues. I struggle day to day with loneliness. It it eating my lunch. I try and I try. The tears come daily. I simply am a good person with talents, but now that I I professed my faith so strongly Most friends have thrown me under a bus. It is a said deal. I will be 60 on the 16th. Tell Liz hey- Bem

    • Ben, I’ll be in town the first weekend in October and will try to get in touch. Hopefully Grant is still happy with the house. I’m not sure all of your message came through. Let me know if you need anything. Miss you out here. Roger
